A Midsummer Night's Dream is an age old story about the problems and confusion of loving and being loved. The tale, with all its adventures and misadventures, takes place in a deep forest ruled by the Faery Realm and their king & queen, Oberon and Titania. As the story unfolds, the audience is drawn into a string of fantastic events — star crossed loves, meaningless quarrels, mishaps and magical spells woven by the infamous Puck!
Adapted from William Shakespeare’s famous comedy and set to Mendelssohn’s beautiful music, the story spins an enchanting tale with breathtaking imagery for audiences of all ages.
Highlighting the close of the program is a series of original jazz works, “On Broadway!” The final selection, All That Jazz (a musical crowd favorite), was created especially for the Highlands Ballet through a collaboration between Jeffrey Polston, a professional dancer from Myrtle Beach and founding member of the famed contemporary dance company, Complexions, and Highlands Ballet Artistic Director, Deirdre Cole. The collaboration between the two artists resulted in a brilliant medley of music and choreography. All That Jazz is the finale to a perfect afternoon of entertainment; you don’t want to miss it!
